Avensis-Air Conditioning In Hot Weather

Hi all,

What a scorcher today, 25C in Waterford,Ireland today.

Anyway noticed something today in my Avensis. When i turned on the Air Con to cool me down in traffic, the cooling fan in the engine came on intermittently, i.e came on for 10 seconds, off for 10 seconds, on for 10, off for 10 and so on. Turned off the AirCon and the cooling fan in the engine didnt come on again, and it only comes on when the Air Con is on.

(Engine Temperature is fine, and coolant level is fine by the way)

My Question is:

Is this normal in these temperatures?

Yes it is mate

I assume its also normal for the car to drain water onto the ground where Ive been parked after using the air-con?

That's the receiver draining moisture from the refrigerant right?

Yer mate. That is perfectly normal. Sounds like the car is doing exactly what it should be doing to me. Years ago I thought I had a leak from a Volvo V70 T5 estate. So I decided to Put my finger in the fluid on the floor and taste it (Not suggesting you should do this) and it was just water condensate from the air con. As long as you've got the correct weight of R134a (And compressor oil, which useually come in with the gas) and the air con is nice and cold then you're sound.

Just remember to turn it on at least once a week for 10 mins to keep the "O ring seals" lubed. This also helps to get rid of Fungi it the system if you run it on "Hot" to...

Cheers mate. recently got a head gasket job done on the car by Main Dealer, air con was re-charged and cleaned out as part of the job, so it should all be working correctly.

Thanks for your replies.

No probs my mate. I had a gasket failure on my T-180 and the cost of the new engine was £6500 covered by Mr T extended warranty. No other manufacturer would do so much for there customers. :toast:
