Engine Problems Avensis 2.0 3Sfe Breakdown!

Hi there,

On the way to Manchester Airport last week, the AA had to be called. The car appeared to be running on 3 Cylinders.

The AA patrolman's diagnostic was a valvetrain problem and there was no compression in the 2nd cylinder. However he seemed like he was in a rush and Im sure he wasn't that savvy. Today I bought a compression gauge, warmed the engine up. Bellowing Blue smoke from the back and then put the compression gauge across all the cylinders I got an even 160PSI... so clearly not a valve problem. After pouring some straight 50 weight heavy oil into the rocker cover and spark plug holes, the smoking briefly stopped, so I guess it's either a ring problem, although good compression indicates it's not a piston ring?

So I'm thinking sudden failure of the valve stem seal(s)?

The car changed over from LPG and recorded a fault with injector 1,2,3 and 4 in the KME software, it's fully sequential.

No Engine Management Light... The car wouldn't change back to gas even after a restart.

So I guess the main ECU triggered a fault as the gas ecu only piggybacks off the main petrol ecu.

Any ideas, guys?
