Can someone please tell me what the service limit is for the front discs? I think it is 24mm but I want to confirm.

Also, how much wear would 1900 mostly motorway miles cause? I am not hard on brakes.

Thanks

Hello, yep you are spot on ...... Standard thickness: 26.0 mm (1.024 in.) Minimum thickness: 24.0 mm (0.945 in.) and that 1900 mileage wouldn't take 2 mm off the discs, mine weren't changed until around 38,000 miles!!

Regards Pete.

Check out the link below.

Look up your vehicle and select the relevant disc - it shows all dimensions and wear limits.

Trying to estimate how much longer brakes will last or remain efficient is a bit of a guess. You have to consider the state of the pads, calipers and the overall condition of the discs.

Thanks. When I bought the car from a dealer 3 months ago I was promised a full inspection and assured anything running low would be sorted out. One disc is down to 24.1mm! That's 95%!

I was only getting an inspection rather than a full service as it had been serviced by the same dealer just 500 miles previously. I'm very annoyed as it should have been obvious at the inspection that this wasn't acceptable. However, I'm optimistic the dealer will sort it out as they sorted a bodywork problem.

My argument with the dealer over brake discs hasn't got off to a very good start. He is insisting that they must have been fine when I bought it as there is no record in the service log.

However, a quick calculation based on the wear rate from new (26mm) to now (39300 and 24.1mm) shows clearly that the will not last to the next service. And this must have been obvious at the pre-sale inspection and at the previous service.

Is 24mm the absolute limit? Legally, am I driving an un-roadworthy vehicle if they go below this?
