Help - I Want To Leave The Car Unlocked Without Leaving Key Fob In The

Hi

Hope this doesn't sound like a silly dilemma.

When I had my old car with old fashioned key ignition and manual car alarm locking system, I could take the car to the carwash, leave it parked and unlocked. I would not have to leave the keys in the car. Then happily go shopping while they wash and cleaned inside and outside.

Now I have my lovely automatic IQ2 2009 with super leather interior and start/stop modern technology, I can no longer do this as it starts beeping the alarm if I try. Can I disable the alarm or something else please? I contacted the Dealership but they were not helpful at all and treated it if this some strange request. (I simply don't want to leave my keys in the car while shopping, as the car could easily be stolen).

Perhaps, Toyota manufacturer can actually 're-program' the auto-locking system on my car specifically to be disabled, and I would just always have to manually lock? I wouldn't mind this at all.

Thanks, I'm sure you understand the problem and I look forward to a suggestion.

:)

I can leave mine unlocked and walk away with the key, as long as I leave it in P (auto). Any other gear and it will beep solidly.

I have had my IQ2 (manual transmission) for about two and a half years so must be about the same age as yours and I may not be understanding your problem completely, but I can walk away from mine, unlocked, with the keys in my possession without any trouble (or beeps).

For example when I come home, I park the car on the drive, go into the house with the keys, and later on I make sure the car is locked when I lock up the house for the night.

Up to that point the car is unlocked and making no noises. I can go out to it, open the doors, work on it, or whatever, without having the key on me.

Have you tried just driving somewhere, get out and walk away from the car with the key with you, as if you had left it at a car wash, then leave the key "out of range" of the car, go back to the car and see if you can get the doors open etc without beeps?

I think you should be able to.

Apologies if I have misunderstood your difficulty and none of that is of any help!

Do the people who wash & clean the car not require the keys to be left with them so that the vehicle can be moved,

especially incase of any emergency,

to lock it when they have finished for security reasons

& also to meet their insurance requirements??

When I wash my car at home, I always leave the car unlocked and move the key out of range otherwise it will beep when your washing over the door handles and its so frustrating!!

My partner left my car unlocked on the drive all night once as well
