T180 Problem

Hi Anchorman and Parts-King - it's really great that you guys are here to cast some light on the mystery ex-warranty repairs on T180s. Do you know if the turbo is part of this replacement job at all? My engine was changed in December and again in August under 'extended warranty', and now my turbo is failing it seems. (it's a Verso T180 but there's not a lot of action in the Verso forum ;) )

The turbo is an ancillary part that is unaffected by the usual engine woes.. When My engine was changed the EGR valve the water pump the Catalytic converter and injectors were all done as all of these parts are or could be affected..

I have never heard of a turbo unit being replaced under the above situation or any other on the 4.3 2AD Engine.....

Wee Charlie.

Hmmmmmm strange not changing the turbo as all those oilly sooty particles would go through the turbo 1st before the DPF, maybe they just cleaned the vanes?

Haven't a clue on that one .... My Dealer changed just about anything that could be affected.. The car now runs like a Swiss clock so all is well..

I have never heard of a Turbo unit having to be changed for any reason at all on the 4.3 with the 2AD engine....

Wee Charlie.

Well it can't do any harm in speaking to the dealer. If the problem can be linked to the engine change or what damage was done before it, they might just pick it up on warranty.

You have nothing to lose

Ok - thanks for all the feedback guys. Spoke to the dealer, catch 22. The car had a new turbo 20k miles/2 years ago but it was paid work. Now Toyota HQ want to see my turbo but only then will they decide if it's warranty work or not - so basically I have to agree to pay for a day's work in case they turn round and say that they will fix it. Maybe that cash would be better off on a recon turbo?
