hi sorry i didnt introduce myself before and just jumped in general discussions with a topic straight away well im looking for a new car and hope its a toyota but bad press is bad press and the avensis/corolla ive been looking for seems like its got of oil burning issues and wondering if anyone got away without a scatch in the late nineties after purchasing one of these oil drinkers

And a welcome from me too, oil burner? Do you mean the engine burns oil or a diesel (aka on here as an oil burner)....

Have a look in the Avensis forum and then make your mind up.... I had 3 Avensis before my Hybrids, but in 3 years for each of them never had a drop of oil come out the back end of any of them!

I'm afraid I beg to differ as my 1.4 Corolla has a great thirst for the stuff :crybaby:

The issue he's referring to though affected the 1.8 engine put into the Avensis ;)

well i just pm norfolk a message so wont bore everyone just want to know if all or a high percentage of 1.8vvt or late 90s early noughties were afected with this oil burning issue? ive seen a nice 2000 example want to buy it but worried about it and what its done to the cat also
