Goodbye Prius ... Been Good To Know You.

Been a member of this forum since Feb2004 during which time I have owned a gen2 Prius T4 for five and a half years and a gen3 TSpirit Prius for almost two years. Although I loved the gen2, I was always a little disappointed with the gen3. My two year pcp is almost up and I have been pondering whether to buy another Prius or look at an alternative. I looked at the new Lexus CTh200 hybrid which some describe as a Prius in a Lexus body. Although the reviews were a bit off putting, I decided to have a closer look and a test drive and it didn't take long to decide it was the car to replace my Prius. So I took the plunge and ordered one. So in a few days time it will be goodbye to Toyota and my Prius, but I guess with a Lexus I'll still be part of the Toyota family. Perhaps in a few weeks I'll come back an give a review of how I think the CT200h compares with the Prius.

I have done exactly the same thing. I really do like the Prius and there will be a few things about it that I will miss. But I won't miss the cheap plastics, the rattles and creaks, and the loud, loud road noise on anything other than the softest newly laid tarmac - I was recently a passenger in a 60 plate base model VW Polo and that in comparison was so quiet and refined - I was almost sick thinking about the difference :crybaby:

I pick up my CT next Tuesday and I haven't been so looking forward to a new car in a VERY long time. I did not find the ride at all overly firm (even on the 17" wheels) and like the Prius it is plenty fast enough (bearing in mind that my last car was a Lexus RX400h). I think that motoring journos are pre-programmed to dislike anything that's supposed to be economical.

Ah, I'm there also (same username). I've been waiting for mine for a little over two months (SE-L Prem) in slate. I had to wait a few weeks more than originally informed but have been given 2 years free servicing for the delay. Not sure how that's going to work... we shall see.

3 days and counting...

The CT 200 is actually more closely related to the Auris HSD than the Prius (as mentioned by the OP).

I was over at the offices of Toyota Kredit Bank in Cologne for a meeting about two years ago and one of the execs there told me that Lexus are on the verge of pulling out of the UK and possibly the whole of Europe if this model doesn't sell. It's make-or-break for them due to the decline in the luxury sector. Lexus still doesn't quite hold the same level of esteem as BMW or Mercedes.

Although I've not driven one, if it's anywhere near as good as the Auris HSD, then I think they're on to a winner. The slightly smaller size compared with the Prius and the sporty chassis mean it's great to drive, so with a few extra luxuries on the CT it's looking like a great car.

None of them will be getting the one with Kylie in it. I'm am afraid that particular "model" has already gone.

Shame! :crybaby:

On the same subject, these adverts for beds you see on the tv every day, I want to know if the girls come with them or are they optional extras?

I fear the wish is very much the father of the thought!

Hi all, I'm lucky enough to test drive all Lexus/Toyota models daily and the CT200h is an excellent drive,it feels solid and is quieter than the Prius and handles a treat,I am sure you will all be very happy when your cars arrive,my personal favorite though is the GS450h

WOW B)

I have had a quick drive in one, and I will say I was very impressed with the drive/handling, not so happy about the smaller boot and the cramped rear seats compared to the Prius though, given the amount of gear I lug about when I gig.

First impressions (just my personal views and anyone is welcome to disagree):

Better than my Prius:

quieter ride

better quality materials (no hint of rattles or creaks)

auto lights (LED)

folding wing mirrors (that dip when reversing)

better audio with full USB (iphone/ipod integration)

more comfortable driver seat (electric with memory)

dual zone climate control

came with a full tank of petrol (as opposed to half with my Prius)

Not as good as my Prius:

fewer storage cubby holes and smaller boot

no rear armrest (or bottle holders)!!!

rear view camera has guidelines but quite as useful as on Prius for some reason

the gear shifter is also a bit further forward and not quite as in reach (with my short arms!)

Sat Nav is pretty much the same, though the positioning on top of the dash is better.

Yes, there are things I will miss about the Prius - it is still a very nice car, but I think I have made the right decision. Had the CT been available when I bought my Prius there would have been no competition...

I like the sound of this one, which variant is it ?

It's the SE-L Prem.

I forgot to mention that the metallic paintwork is more sparkly (I had the dark grey Prius and now the dark gray CT).

Also, the satnav has a 3D map display which is a bit easier to follow as it changes orientation with you as you drive along.

The orientation changes on my Prius Sat Nav 3D view too as I drive along! Are you saying your Prius Sat nav didn't work like this?

The gen2 sat nav can be set to change orientation but it can make you dizzy !!. Instructed by she who must be obeyed to change it back to 'North up' !!!

Wow, the £32k one, a little out of my budget ATM. Looks like I'll have to put up with the extra noise of the Prius for a couple more years

To be honest I never really looked in my Prius but I don't recall seeing a 3D option

If yours is a later model perhaps they updated the Nav? That's just me guessing but mine may have had it but I never notice???

It's on my September 2009 Weasel Warranty version. You select it by tapping the display icon on the left hand side of the map screen. There are various options including dual display and compass modes. You can also select these by voice command.

Where do you get the Lexus serviced then. i am looking for a change but no Lexus dealers here. The Toyota man said we dont service them or maybe he was trying to get me to buy another Toyota.
