Gen 7 140

Hi guys,

i have a 2001 pre face lift gen7 140 celica, i have noticed oil drips on my drive,

on investigation it seems to be coming from the sump joint but could be running down from somewhere above,

what i would like to know is if there is common fault or do i have to fork out for a garage to fix something easy

that i could have fixed myself. i've changed the crankshaft sensor 'o'ring for starters (easy option) but still leaking.

i've cleaned as much oil off as i could and idled the engine for a good 15mins but nothing stood out.

please tell me its something simple.

cheers.

First thing I'd try is re-sealing the sump. If that's done right & there's still a leak, then it's coming form somewhere else.

From what I know, it's not that common to have an oil leak really.

Dont freak out just yet. Is it actually leaking onto the ground continually? Or have you had it serviced recently?

It could have just overflowed down the side of the engine when the oil was changed. The only sure way to find a leak is to steam clean the engine and then trace it. From my experience oil leaks come mostly from overfilling with oil . I do mine myself, but I used to instruct the mechanic on the EXACT amount required - depending on how long he let it drain for

comon oil leak is the timing chain tensioner you remove seal and refit its located at the rear of the engine(driver side)

hi, i've just had a look at where the timing chain tensioner is located and there is oil coming from that area, it drips directly onto

the driveshaft gaiter which chucks it everywhere. In my manual it goes through the precedure for reseting the spring, this sounds simple,

but i thought i would get a quote from my local toyota dealer in case i could not manage it. £1300......they said it would take 15 hours as

they would have to take the engine out.
