Timing Belt Or Chain

I have an Avensis year 2000, a 1.8 vvt.

Does it have a timing belt or timing chain.

I have seen both answers in other forums.

I think your car might have the timing belt.

Your car has a chain! You said 'vvti' and that is definately chain.

I have the earlier 7A-FE 'leanburn' engine, and that has belt.

I repeat, all VVTI's have chain.

Any doubt's - I have the Haynes manual with all the info plus pictures.

Just clearing up any confusion.

As a VVTI owner, concentrate on the oil side of things.
