Surf Won't Reverse

Could any one help with my little problem I hope it is any way

My much loved surf won't reverse the auto gear leaver gose into the "R" slot like it should reverse ligts come on the bleeper bleeps but the car is not going backwards its like its still in nutral any info would be much apretiated.it dosent happen all the time it very unpradictable.

This might seem like i'm trying to teach you to suck eggs but have you check the Automatic transmission fluid levels. if the trouble is not constant this could be the problem. if not it could be the selector.

the honest answer mate is "i dont know" it all depends how complex the gearbox etc is and how long it will take to get at the selector. do you have any other symptoms like.

1. the engine revs when you put your foot on the brake

2. or acceleration is not smooth the car jerks etc
