Avensis Black Bumpers

I have a 2001 1.8vvti Avensis. The bumpers are colour coded with Black trim in the Centre.

These black area's are starting to go grey & commercial blacking products seen to last only a week or two.

A few weeks ago I found the following advice on another forum.

Use a clean cloth, gently rub in a small amount of Linseed oil onto the bumper, then polish it off.

I have tried this and the bumpers are still black 8 weeks later. A small bottle of this oil costs about £3, Think how much the Blacking wax costs.

Many thanks for the advice. My friend and I have the same Model Toyota Avensis 1.8 VVTi CDX from 2001 with exactly the same problem you described. Will definitely give it a try.

Both mineral and vegetable based oils are wll renowned for degrading plastic and neither contain UV inhibitors. UV light is the enemy of all plastics and rubber.

It's probably OK to use on an older car but personally I wouldn't recommend it for newer models.
