How To Change The Air Filter On A T Sport?

Im looking to change my yaris t sports air filter with a more of a sporty sound like a k and n or along those lines, haven't got a clue where its actually located under the bonnet, and how to get to it. Any one have any straight forward advice would be much appreciated.

with the bonnet open, to the right of the engine is a large plastic airbox (the one with pipes going into it).

around half way down around the airbox are two metal clips, that hold the two halves of the airbox together.

unclip them and lift open the top half of the airbox to reveal a dirty white cotton filter.

replace this with your chosen filter (i'd suggest a dry type filter like Blitz) and re-clip the top of the box back in place.

this alone however won't give you much of a noise difference, removing the plastic air feed snorkel (the one bolted near the headlight) will improve the sound.

the only other way to improve noise and performance is an induction kit, such as the k&n typhoon/Blitz/Apexi.

Thanx for that! So are Blitz a better option than k and n?

The Blitz is dry whereas the K&N is oiled; The K&N has better filtration but some people worry that the oil will contaminate the MAF/O2/airflow sensor.

I think that shouldn't be a problem unless you clean and re-oil it (Unlike the Blitz and OEM filters, it's reusable) and put too much oil on.

I just use the disposable stock ones tho' so don't have much experience there...

Just make sure whatever you choose that you fit it snuggly; It's quite easy to not put the bottom part in squarely if you're only opening up the top of the airbox and dropping it in, esp. with 3rd party filters.

yep, the yaris MAF is known to clog easily from oiled filters.

My first yaris's MAF died with the help from a TTE/BMC oiled filter, my second yaris was dry filters all the way, and had no trouble over 3 years.
