Hi all,

i have picked up a toyota paseo (automatic) about 4 months ago and have a few questions.

I have found it too be underpowered and i think it is because of the automatic being 4speed. am i right? also it will do absolutly nothing under 3000RPM. i mean it!

1RPM over 3000 and the car picks up like a shot untill the next change that send the RPM down a long way, hopefully above the majic 3000.

the big question really is off from the lights i can rev to 7-8000 RPM then have it go down to 2500 when it hits 2nd gear. is there a prob with the engine/gearbox or is it just the way it is?

thanks mute

I'd try checking that the throttle cable and kick down cable are adjusted. They have to be "almost taut" with foot of throttle.

That's pretty much just the way it is. toyotasera's right, check those, but I also have an Auto 'seo, and you really don't get any punch until after 3kRPM. even if you add mods like an intake or headers, they're only going to help the higher end of the powerband. If you want to improve low end power and torque, I would suggest upgrading your ignition, and not just the wires, as that will do nothing. I mean full MSD system with Iridium plugs. It's hard to squeeze the juice out of the paseo, but the ignition is my next project.
