Rav4 2001 Lost Presure

Loss of engine oil pressure will not cause the car to crawl along as you state. It may cause the engine to sieze or even break up but from what you say the engine is still going.

I strongly suspect you have a transmission problem and I suggest you investigate this apsect first. No pont in trailing the engine apart only to find you have problems elsewhere.

That would be my thoughts too..

The noise and symptoms you describe sound more like a torque converter problem - have you checked your transmission oil level?

Lee

We've got 2 4.2 autos and I'd be highly delighted if I could check the tranny oil level as it doesn't have a dip-stick. There isn't even a mention of the auto trans oil (levels, changes, etc.)in the handbook or service schedule!!

Jim, on my 2001 there is a dipstick with an orangey/red cap and with a clip over it,partly hidden by the flexible hose on the air intake.

It has to be for the trans fluid, any longer and it would check the oil in the rear diff.

Just mentioning this, but it could have changed on your 2002

Del

That's really interesting, Del. Thanks, I'll check both of ours over the weekend.

Jim

Well, I'll be buggared, you're right, Del! Little orange dipstick with a label that says something like "no need to bother with this in normal operating conditions". Guess that explains why there is no mention of it in handbook (apart from ATF warning light and standard instruction to stop & call Mr.T if it comes on) nor is it on the TGB service schedules - I've asked Mr. T twice about whether ATF needs replacing & he couldn't find any reference to it on the dealer systems. So, after having owned the 5-dr for 9 years, I now know where the ATF dipstick is; in my defence however, it is hidden below the air intake trunking, as you said, and it has a springclip to keep it closed, which seems to indicate "don't touch". Now, if someone could tell me how to dip it, i.e. engine cold or hot, running or not, that would be really useful.

Many thanks, Del, Oh font of all knowledge!

Give over Jim, :blushing::blushing::blushing:

I just do as I have done on other motors and check with the engine running and warm.

Might be as well to see if anyone knows otherwise.

Does that mean the rest of us can have an affair with Troy Tempest (no strings attached....?)

Think I prefer the sheep on the cliff in Charlie's foateez, again....Marina would only break down anyway near the M6 at Leyland.....

Perv Derv Kerv :help:

  • 2 weeks later...

I found the problem, it wasn't the torque converter. The Bearing on the Connecting rod, was warn out and there was no bearing between the Connecting rod and crankshaft. had to do some grinding. I am about to fix it.

Now where can i get a new Thrust Washer as the old one seems to have warn out and also i would need a new or replacement Camshaft Oil timing valve as well...any body has one for sale, please PM me.

Thanks
