Aircon/climate Control

On a RAV4 is absolutely brilliant!

Driving back from Alicante on Saturday my mate remarked that he could feel the heat of the sun on his arm through the glass and asked how hot it was outside..

42 C thats how hot!

And from a mate of mine, who writes ECU maps for Ford, I understand that temp is taken in the dark, cool, windy intercooler chamber, coz the temperature sensor is there for the engine management system's benefit, not the driver's - the aircon was set at 22C and seemed to have nae bother keeping it there.

Just thought I'd lob a "positive" in, just in case anybody reading the forum thought RAVs were nowt but trouble

Weather back here utterly bowfin', Lee....but 42 of them degrees?....youz can keep that, mucker....that's downright no comfy. Your wee bit of Scottishness in "nae bother" prompts me to ask, having been quizzed aboot who "ken" was in the past......who is Alec's Auntie, where does she live, and has she not got a name?

Off to get guitar out now and busk on Sauchiehall Street....20k service morn's morn......

Would concur with your positive post, but also remark about Toyota air con in general not being of the freezing variety....it cools the car nicely without the skin chills, non?

Had an Audi on loan 2 weeks ago as number 2 was in getting its thermostat unfrozen. The aircon in the audi was good. Wur Previa needs re-piped for the aircon due to corrosion and craters in the road. And the 2 RAVs dinna have aircon....ah jist drive faster

I gather the weather's not so good in Jockland, the g/f is home (in Ayr) this week and she sez it's not sunbathin' warm. still, she's back to work on Friday for a week then out here for 3 weeks no doubt moaning about the heat :yahoo:

Of course Alex Auntie has a name, in Spanish she is called The Beautiful City with the Big Hill and the Fort to Repel the Furrinners. she also has a Magic Place called El Altet, I think it's a paint shop coz millions of white folk arrive and about the same number of brown ones leave, most odd.

And from a mate of mine, who writes ECU maps for Ford, I understand that temp is taken in the dark, cool, windy intercooler chamber,

That would be more sensible than some. My old Mitsi had a diagram in the handbook indicating where the temp sensors for the climate control where, I forget all three but one was right at the front of the car, in the bumper by the front grille, and another was inside the car in the dash somewhere.

It was very noticeable that a car parked in the shade thought it was considerably cooler outside than when parked in direct sunlight. The outside temp would also drop quickly if a car had been parked in direct sunlight but then driven, even if in sunlight, thanks to the breeze.

This mate of mine INSISTS that the outside air temperature sensor is there exclusively for the ECU's use and that some salesman asked the engineering team how difficult it would be to make it a "feature" for the owner, about 50p to bung a display on the dashboard apparently.

I had a chat with him about this stuff a couple of years ago, it seems the kit he was working on had (around) 32,000 2D maps and several hundred 3D maps the correct one being selected by the ECU based on sensor inputs, not just the obvious ones such as throttle position, airflow speed, engine temp, outside temp etc but altitude, humidity and exhaust temp to name but a few, really baffling stuff to us mere mortals, a walk in the park for him - very clever bloke!

Could be the start of a hot summer Kev

I'm quite looking forward to the announcement on 7th August "Ryanair welcomes you to Glasgow Prestwick we hope you enjoyed the flight and have a safe onward journey" now, there's a joke, Glasgow Prestwick eh?? Handy for Ayr I must confess but not much use if you REALLY want to go to Glasgae!
