Short Journey Misinformation

Is the mpg being quoted calculated from petrol fill-ups and the mileage traveled, or is it using the car's own computer mpg display?

From the cars display. I checked for the first 4 fillups pump to pump on road trip and it's about even so I stopped worrying and just go by the computer. From memory it was about 10 mpg over estimated over around 1800 miles

I use the road trip app for the Aygo now as it doesn't have a built in computer.

10mpg seems a large error, on a 60mpg reading that is a 20% error !

Mine is only 4% out, which gives me 57.7mpg actual on a 60mpg trip reading.

From the actual records:

1800 miles on 'trip b' I had actually put in 29 gallons giving an average of 62.06 mpg

the car said I had an average of 64.28 mpg - what the percentage of that is I've no idea, but using a calculator it works out that the pump had given me 29 gallons and the car said I'd used around 28..

Best ever was 68.6 on a 79.6 mile trip to ma-in-laws a few weeks ago according to the 'best' on the display....

Unfortunately the memory is not what it was - hence the 10mpg (gawd knows where that came from!)

However, whatever the figures, they are much better than any automatic car that I've ever come across!

4% out is about right for me too.

67mpg (prius) becomes about 64mpg (fuelly)

I don't think you are trying hard enough, although I'd suggest wearing some fuel proof foot wear if you do... ;)

I think hybrid fuel consumption stats are 20% down to the car and 80% down to the driver. The Prius repays a driver whose driving style is already economical. As many motoring journalists have demonstrated, if you drive it like an idiot, comparatively poor economy is easily achieved.
