1998 UK 2.0 GTI T-bar

26

Full NCB

Premium = £700 fully comp

I live in Bristol tho which is car crime central so insurance is very expensive here, I would expect to pay a lot less if I was living somewhere else.

Funkadelic's insurance is dirt cheap....

cheapest quote I got on the 2.0 GT engine (in a celica though) was £1800 TPFT....

I might seriously consider an MR2 this summer if I can find a quote near Funkadelic's :)

age 19, 0 ncb.

im 21, had license since 17, 6 points last year (2 SP30's), no no claims bonus. Im a named driver under my dad who is 65 and has 5 years no claims bonus and 3 points last year for some parking thing. Policy is £1016 for TPF&T for a 92 turbo with tesco

try http://www.confused.com which gets a quote from all the insurance companies and gets the results within 24 hours or so.

good question chrisb...

I was always puzzled as to why the best quote I could get on the 2.0gt was £1800...

I live in a very good area too so I don't understand it, insurance

i was actually told that when 25 wouldnt change that much but getting some NCB will make a real dif. also occpation does make an impact, mine went down by just changing from admin to Mkg!:wacko:

You might do better asking around some of the specialish insurers, Adrian Flux and Dorset spring to mind. More general insurers like the Norwich Union usually refuse to insure highly modified cars, or will do so at a ridiculous premium!!

Will bear that in mind - Cheers.

I thought I might as well see what they have to say though (I'll make sure I get through to one of the English call centres)!

Definately, as you say a good idea to ask the question first. There was someone one another forum recently who dropped a turbo lump into an N/A. He found that he could not get insurance for under £2000, and was actually offered a quote of around £1200 for a normal turbo. It seems that companies simply don't like highly modified cars. TBH if you can't get a decent quote for the mod, you would be better off selling yours and getting a Turbo. Having said that, the new MR2 I;ve just bought as a project car may well end up with a turbo lump at some stage.......;)

£50 Excess

This was through Adrian Flux, they specialise in cars like this for drivers round my age. They are a broker and the quote was from Royal Sun Alliance, who underight a lot of big insurance companys who were quoting me just under 1k. Goes to show you how much money they are trying to stich out of us

Tis true I'm afraid. Working in insurance I know how it works. We tend to just quote a premium and hope the customer pays it. Believe it or not, 9 times out of 10 they do. We did a survey recently that asked people what they though would be a good quote for vehicle (specific vehicle mentioned) household (specific house type) and other insurances. Most gave figures that were much higher than the actual industry average.

Believe it or not, we very rarely make any underwriting profit. Instead, profit comes from investing the money in the stock market. The performance of the market in recent years has been appauling - hence a lot of insurers have been struggling to make any kind of profit whatsoever and some have difficulty even breaking even.

im 22, 1yrs NCB, 6 points (sp30/cu30), 3 claims (only 1 my fault) under my own name with my mum as a named driver, living in a pr25 postcode, £1500ish fully comp from direct line, on a 93 n/a GTT-Bar, these were the cheapest by a long way, and i rang plenty of companies!!!

is expensive i know, but considering i was insuring a group 12 Clio 1.8 16v for just under £1400 i though this was a good deal and had just changed jobs so thought might as well as ive wanted a '2' since i was about 12ish, loved em then love em now, and wouldnt sell her for anything other than a black 911 turbo with free insurance for life!!!

still on the look-out for a cheaper quote though, fingers crossed might get it for 1300!!!

Mike

Considering the points and the accident, that's not a bad quote at all. You may be able to get it a bit cheaper, but I wouldn't have thought by much!
