Air Conditioning Pump / Compressor

Hi All,

I just bought my Avensis and on the test drive thought the Air Con was poor

and concluded a re gas wqould help. On getting this done the engineer found

the pump had been bypassed and a shorted belt fitted.

It looks a costly exercise to get changed £500 + for recon and fitting. My

question is has anyone successfully refurbed clutch and pulley assembly and

if so where did they get the parts.

It would be graet to do this on the car so I don't need a regas ( this was done

before engineer spotted the belt )

Any help or advise on the lowest cost route to getting my Aircon running would be good.

I've checked the pump isn't siezed or anything.

Thanks

Steve

There's a common problem where there is a leak on the HP aluminium pipe on a bend located underneath the Battery. it is expensive to replace as it goes from the bulkhead to the radiator at the front. If the car as been run for a length of time without any refrigerant the pump will also be damaged, the previous owner would have done this as a cheap fix.

Hi,

The simplest thing to try would be to fit the correct size belt first and see if it works then.

If that doesn't work, the compressor needs to be repaired or replaced.

That means the system needs to be de-gassed first.

I presume there was no leak in the system when it was regassed, since it's illegal for a Service station to release a car with a leaking A/C system. :(

Hi, Thanks for the advice.

The engineer regassed fine so no leaks. I'm guessing the belt was

removed due to a noisy bearing maybe. HE also checked the compressor

wasn't siezed.

I'll get a belt and see what happens. Looks easy enough to change.

Thanks

Steve
