Revs Stay High During Deceleration Or After Reving

Hey everyone, My mom has recently had a problem with her 1.6 Carina II with the engine 4AF. Basically since my dad messed around with the carb (can't remember reason why he did) whenever you rev the car it takes ages to lower back down to the normal idle revs. I have checked the throttle cable and that is all working fine and I am sure it is something to do with one of the screws/adjusters on the carb which is making it slow to decelerate. I was wondering if anyone knew which of the screws/adjusters might be causing this problem so I can correct it.

Thanks in advance, jack

Perhaps he has messed a little with the small dash pot settings the one that touches the thottle lever ie what you would rev the car up with on the carb if you were under the bonnet

If the length has been lengthened the cushion effect of the dash pot damper will make the engine die down longer before it reaches to its proper idle speed level whereby the thottle lever returns to its original stop position

But you need to look at your particular spec carb in the manual, im just making a general explaination. or perhaps there is an air leak on the carb etc etc >>

I think I have managed to solve it pretty much. There is a vacuum chamber type thing that opens and closes and follows the rev thing to keep smooth deceleration and I cleaned all the gloopy oil off the connecting rod and now it slides much more freely. I think it has solved the problem.

Thanks for the info :)
