Mobil 1 5W30 full synthetic (if its under 120,000 k's)

Otherwise a high quality 10W30 semi synthetic or with a synthetic base

Or Amsoil 10W30 full synthetic, its 50% more expensive but you can leave it in twice as long

If you read my link on 'Oil Grades' you will see how important it is to get a good filter

Try to get a 15 or 30 micron

On a turbo charged engine, I'd recommend a thicker oil than a 30 viscosity. 0W40 or 5W40 would give you more protection in my opinion.

A thicker oil isnt necessary as the 30 grades thicken up when they warm. Oils like Amsoil were designed initially for high revving jet engines. . I dont know where this myth in the UK comes from that GT4's need a thicker oil designed for a completely different engine and not recommended by Toyota?

Its more important to get an oil that retains its viscosity and protects the friction surfaces, thats where a full synthetic is miles ahead, as it always keeps a coating of oil on the metal and doesnt all drain back to the sump like a mineral oil. As you would know, 90% of wear occurs on start up .. A thicker grade will wear create wear as it will take another 20 secs to reach the top of your engine. The oil feed holes in your engine are tiny and your Toyota is designed for an oil that is thin on start up to protect your engine and keep the oil flowing freely

Really?, I was always under the impression that an oil gets thinner as the temperature increases..hence running the Engine for a few minutes for the oil to get thinner before draining it prior to an oil change.

Although your comments about using a thin oil to circulate and protect on cold initial start-up are spot on, they have nothing to do with the 30 or 40 which is referring to the viscosity at normal operating temperature.
