Avensis Verso Same As Avensis?

Hi Jan

I've stopped driving it and parked it up until i find a reliable/honest mechanic as I can't afford to pay dealer prices. Most of the garages i know of have a reputation for scamming, but i just didn't expect kwik-fit to fall into that category.

:crybaby: I'm really desperate now, so please please could someone recommend a few garages that they can say are honest and won't charge the earth. I live in pudsey, so any garages within 5-10 miles will be fine to reach.

Billy, sorry to sound as if I'm having a go, bit i think you will find that wherever you go with these kwikfit type places will guarantee the items but not the labour. And anyway you sound as if you are expecting it to go wrong... As long as the job is done properly they should keep you going for a good while... If you can't afford a main dealer you have either to do it yourself or go to a kwikfit type place...

Its okay Jan&Tone, I understand. You see, I'm not looking for a one-off brake repair garage. But instead I need you guys to recommend a reputable/honest garage, so that i can use it for everything vehicle related.

I live in pudsey, so i don't mind if the mechanic/garage is based in bradford, halifax, leeds or somewhat around these areas.

Thanks.

Your a star T-Spirit!

I've found a garage not too far away. They have quoted me £235, which includes:-

Front Pads and Discs (£140)

2 Tyres + Balancing (£60) - One front nearside tyre has gone bold from the edges

Tracking (£35)

Is that okay or too expensive?

Thanks Again

You won't believe this!!!

My mate has just popped over from birmingham to see me. He's not a mechanic, but knows a thing or two about cars. He said that i should try changing the nearside front alloy wheel+tyre thats slowly going bold and put on the spare wheel. Then drive and test the car brakes. So we did just that...

Guess wot? It seems to be the tyre!!! :yahoo:

I drove around and there is only extremely very light pulsing (hardly noticable), but i think thats because its a spare wheel, i.e. its thinner and only for emergencies and also the road surface was a bit bumpy.

Have I solved it? :toast:

Sounds possible, I'd still get it checked over though.... If it was as bad as you have previously described, who knows what other damage may have been done....

well i've been told to swap the front wheels to rear and rear to front to see if definately there is no problem. Will give it a try and let you know how i get on.

Thanks

hi guys,

good news! the wheels have not only been swapped, but i've also changed the worn tyres. This seems to have solved the brake grinding/pulsing. I didn't get them tracked and the car is driving without pulling.

The only one problem i have noticed is that the wheel locking nut is damaged and i can't seem to remove it.
