Hello, New to the forum. We have a 2008 Avensis 2.0 d4d t3s. I bought the car in from the uk at a year old, as i could not get a hatch version here. I had a 2003 before that and rang it until 168 k miles with no problems, orginal clutch etc. This car has being a nightmare, It has being the last 5 weeks in dealer with a vsc/trc light on. The car is out of warranty and toyota ireland say as it is a uk car, not bothered. The service mechanic has swapped a new abs pump, steering angle sensor, all to no avail. The have checked for a broken wire etc. He now says it was unfixabale. Anybody and ideas.

thanks ronan

These lights seem to come on for a bunch of faults. Mine came on for the EGR valve - but that was diagnosed immediatley by the dealership software. Stop paying your mechanic - it sounds as if he doesn't know what he is doing. Diagnosing faults by replacing parts is guess work and is costing you big bucks. Get Toyota to do a diagnosis, at least that way you are only repairing those things that need repaired - oh, and they can be repaired. If you don't want to use a Toyota dealer then use an independant toyota specialist.

I had the same 2 lights on in my T180 and it was because of different tyres on the same axle believe it or not. I had replaced one quite worn premium tyre with a new budget tyre following a puncture, the lights came on, I replaced both tyres and it sorted the problem. It does mention something in the hand book about different tyre treads, makes etc so daft as it sounds it might be worth checking your tyres.

Ronan, you need to get the codes which in your case are stored in the anti-skid ECU. Many scan tools only read generic codes from the ECM, and can't see the VSC/TRAC related codes. The problem could be something as simple as a bad wheel sensor or even a defective fuel cap. The good news is you can read the codes yourself and the only tool you need is a short jumper wire. I wrote up this procedure for the RAV4 but it might help:
