Hi

I bought a 08 tr Avensis with FTSH with 90k on clock. A few weeks later sat nav started to freeze up on me so I took it to Mr T and they said they want £60 just to check it coz its over 60k...whats mileage got todo with sat nav its not a moving part...I went and bought a tomtom instead...now that the weather has been alittle warmer i tried the a/c and no cold air,,,,so i took it down to Mr T and as usual they said £60 for regas and they will put a some sort of dye in it so if its a leak they will fix it for free but I will not be able to claim the £60.

Now the fact the compressor has no gas that means there is a leak which they should fix under warranty..Basically i am absolutley ****** at there excuses and service...I was thinking of taking an extended warranty but I think I won't now.

I have just gone into self employment and am a private hire taxi driver...I'm just....

I am furious right now, its a brand new car the fella who had it before me was a sales man, only the drivers seat has been used ,it literally brand new.

I am disgusted at the excuses and service.

'brand new' c'mon. It's done 90,000 miles! 90,000....

Whatever cars I have had have rarely had the rear seats used, but no way could you call them 'brand new' cars.

You bought a USED car, one that frankly I wouldn't even look at. 90,000 miles!!!

Whatever next.

Air-con systems naturally lose effciency and refrigerent over time so it doesn't necessarily mean there is a leak. The refrigerent level in air-con systems are deemed to be a servicable item. So in effect the garage want £60 to service the air-con and if afterwards there proves to be a leak then they will consider a repair.

The navigation system can freeeze up for various reasons some due to a manufacturing faults others due to misuse so until they find the cause of the fault they are obviously being cautious. Have you studied the warranty to see if the electronics aspect of the sat-nav system is covered.

I find myself agreeing with some of the other coments on here. 90k isn't in anyway a "Brand new car" even if only the driving seat has been used and the others have never been sat in. The air con can lose the R134a over time especially if it doesn't get used that much. You could always buy a can of Ez Chill off eBay (Item number: 320720212040) and give that a wirl. I've used it befor and worked a treat... But I understand that its now ilegal to work on any air con system unless you have a licence.

As for the Sat nav, you'd have to find out if the disc has had it or the unit. The unit has moving parts as in motor and optical reader. Hope you get it sorted...

whats mileage got todo with sat nav

well, the original warranty for the whole car was 60K.

My understanding (maybe wrong) is that they charge for inspection & then if a warrantiable fault is found that charge is refundable.

Not sure what the warranty covers as far as the satnav though - if it's e.g. a scratched disc I wouldn't expect that to be covered.

Sorry to say this but i thought taxi drivers had there heads screwed on, and 90k is already on its way to being to me a taxi milage on a 08 plate, when you committed yourself to buying it, it was a nice thought to think of your passengers "nice seats" when you bought it and all your checks should have been found at point of sale and on a test drive you only have yourself to blame i think on this one.

I think i have read some of the most ludicrous comments ever!

90,000 miles is not brand new. In fact, any more than 50 miles is a used car. Your car has exceeded that 'new' limit by 89,950 miles. Thats a long way.

Nearly every manufacturer offers a standard warranty of 3 years or 60,000 miles. Your car has exceeded both of these warranty limits, so therefore it has no warranty.

As most people are unaware that aircon doesn't just cool a car, they don't use it very much during cold months, and the cost of fuel also puts people off using it because they believe it will increase their fuel bills too much.

But, the handbook states that aircon should be turned on regularly to prevent bearings seizing, so i would assume that this hasn't been done, and its seized. The bill to fix this will probably cost far more than 10 years of driving with the aircon running. Ho hum.

As for opting NOT to pay £60 for ther sat nav to be inspected and possibly fixed, that would have been cheaper than buying a brand new TomTom, so you can't really complain about YOUR CHOICE to spend more.

Just wait till your head gasket goes...

Sorry to disappoint you but I do not think that an extended warranty is available if the vehicle is used as a taxi/ private hire vehicle

As others have said 90000 miles is well out of warranty!
