Central Locking Works By Itself

'98 GS TD

For a while now I've noticed that our '98 GS TD Avensis will automatically lock itself about 20 seconds after I've unlocked it with the key fob. Usually it doesn't do this if I leave the key fob anywhere near the front of the car inside so I've just put up with this....until a few days ago I unlocked it and left the key on the rear parcel shelf...came back a while later to find that the doors were all locked and the key fob was still inside!!

GRRR now this is getting !Removed! annoying!

Anybody know how to stop this from happening...

I'm loathe to disconnect the car Battery as I don't have the code for the non-standard radio that's fitted...

Thanks

Mark

the car should not lock if the doors have been opened.i take it you are opening the door after unlocking the car if not then it may lock again as a security feature. do your cabin lights still come on and off with the doors if not that may be the problem if they dont.

I had a 'T' reg Avensis, and I'm pretty sure that was a security feature, certainly I remember it locking itself while I was washing it, a bit of a pain I recall....

Sounds like a pretty good feature to me, why on earth would you be putting the keys loose inside the car anyway? It sounds like you do this all the time if it's getting on your nerves. Why not just put the keys in your pocket and not loose in the car? Job done..........simples

Oh don't get me wrong, I liked the feature, it's just that when the keys are in your pocket and your hands are wet and you need to open the door to wash round the door frame and under the door itself your trousers get wet and during the winter it's damn cold!!!

I did try it on my Prius the other day, and the doors didn't lock themselves - whether I left it long enough or it's no longer a feature I've no idea...

OK... well we were kitesurfing and needed to load stuff into the car & collect more wet gear from sea/beach so didn't want to risk getting key fob soggy & wanted to leave car open to load gear... there are tiems when it's useful to leave key in car & have doors open!!

As per post 2

as long as you open the drivers door (or I think any other door) and the interior light comes on, then you should be able to close the door and it not autolock. It's the interior light switch on the door pillar that's important, if that does not work then you get your problem.
