Rust On Roof!

hi everybody

Has anybody got rust on their roof? My Auris appears to have a small stone chip on the roof that is about 1 cm long. The only reason I noticed is that it appears to have quite a lot of rust in it. At first I thought it was dirt but it is in fact rust. I'm quite shocked by this and think I will have to mention it to the dealer on Friday when it is in for its first service. It is white non-metallic paint but would still not expect to see rust on a car less than a year old.

Cheers

Dave

As you said, its a stone chip, if it chips down to the metal it will rust, even if it is a day old, they are not made of alloy so rust will appear if it's down to the metal

Get it looked at sooner rather than later to get it sorted, it will not be covered by warranty if it is a stone chip

if the chip is through to bare metal, then it will rust.the longer you leave it the worse it will get.it seems you left it too long before touching up.its not a warranty job.

a shame though.

Surface rust does show up on white cars - I have had this in the past!

If it is a stone chip then it will be easy to fix and shouldn't cause any further problem.

I had some swarf from where the number plate holes were drilled fall onto some paintwork and started rusting - I panicked at first and thought my new car was rusting but it just needed the swarf removing and a clean and polish.

Good luck in getting this sorted.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yep, knew stone chips would not be covered by warranty. What surprised me was how quickly it must have developed as it was not there last Saturday when I hand-washed the car. That's why I thought it was dirt. Since then though I have driven 600 miles, twice going through thunder storms. I was led to believe from an article I'd read that the bonnet and roof were made from aluminium to save weight. Obviously that would appear to be incorrect.

Oh well, time to dig out my Hammerite rust removal kit. Plenty of experience with it as I used to have a Fiat many years ago.

Cheers

Dave
