1999 Corolla - How Do I Check Computer Trouble #?

:help: My car's "check-engine light" is turned on. How could I check the computer # so that I know what is wrong? Been told the number should come up in the odometer screen if I turn the ignition key at the same time as something else. Anyone knows the way to do it? Thanks so much for your help. Take care.

The engine management has loads of censors all over the engine. Your local dealer will need to plug in their diagnostics via the port under the bonnet.

There is one quick check you can do, becuase sometimes if your Battery has had a low charge this light can come on. Disconnet the Battery fully (remember your radio code :P ) place the two terminals together (not the Battery!) so you have the black and red leads joined to complete the circuit and turn the ignition on. Nothing will happen inside the car as you will have no power to turn the engine without the battery. Then reconnect every thing and see if the light comes on again. If it does see the local dealer if not jobs a gooden. It works sometimes to just reset the ecu, the ecu can hold a very low charge after the battery has been disconected and by completing the circuit with the battery cables it can reset the darn thing.

Best of luck

Hi, Tere, I can't say that I have experienced this, but I am looking for something to use at home as a diagnostic tool with a PC. In the course of my research I came across this article which you may find useful, click on the link,
