2001 Avensis Sticky Brake Calipers

Guys,

Can anyone give me some advice, I have a stick caliper on the front, passenger side. It was examined and freed 9 months ago by a garage local to the in laws. They said that the brake lines were blocked and the calpier was OK. So they replaced the lines front and back as well as pads/discs all round. But the front ones were warped and they replaced them a week later. Now I am getting the same issues and am wondering if they have not repaired Red as they should have.

Wife took her back to them yesterday and asked whats going on. Said the pads/discs may be at fault but may be under warranty. They want Red for a day while they look at her, remove the calpier and get the serial numbers to get a replacement.

Any advice on how to approach this is really appreciated guys.

P.

BTW,

If a new calpier is needed, anyone know where I can get a refurbised one or is it better new?

The sticking caliper should have been replaced when the problem first arose. Why they thought it was due to faulty brake lines is crazy though. A sticking caliper will warp a brake disc in no time.

For obvious safety reasons when replacing brake components they should always be renewed in axle pairs.

You should be able to source a pair of reconditioned calipers for the price of a brand new one - mist decent motor factors should be able to help.

Personally I wouldn't use the garage again it appears they know as much about brakes as my a$$ knows about snipe shooting.

I appreciate some brake repirs can be expensive but there is no compromise when it comes to braking systems.

A sticking brake needs to be examined to see if it is the caliper as often the pads stick because of brake dust build up. If it is the caliper the fault will be either the piston being scored or a damaged seal, both of which can be purchased and replaced.
