Ordered!

Having researched more than I've ever researched for anything, about 3 weeks ago I placed my order for a Prius T Spirit, pearl white with protection pack, and the Scirocco is going back a year early!

When I first placed the order, the dealer, who are brilliant, in Swindon, said roughly end of August, beginning of September for delivery. I spoke to them yesterday and this has been updated to 8th August!! Not complaining, but is that realistic for a car to be built AND sent from Japan?

Best wishes

Chris

No, but my guess is that a number of Pearl White T Spirits will have been shipped in speculatively as mine was. The protection pack is dealer fitted. I bought mine straight from the showroom with a delivery period of about three days.

My pearl white was a week from order to delivery.... I didn't go for any of the extras though...

Yes, the only extra you've ordered is dealer-fit, so you'll get a car that's already in the country.

I ordered one with factory fit extras in January and am being told I might get it by the end of August.

Yours would have been on the transit ship that embarked from Japan just prior to the earthquake and tsunami

It will have been stored at the port of entry until called forward by the Toyota dealer to have your extras dealer fitted.

Really? I was getting a lead in time of October/November from Leaseplan, and then September, now early August from Toyota Swindon.

If it's here in the UK, why can't they just let me have it now?

Cheers

I'd be surprised if they stay at the port, I imagine that it would be an expensive place to store anything car or otherwise?

Toyota have a massive operation at Portbury Dock, so it may well be where your Prius lives at the moment. It's also possible that your options will be fitted there rather than at the dealer, hence the delay.

Perhaps because there are other customers who ordered before you did still waiting. 6 weeks or so is nothing. I waited 14 weeks and Seamaster has been waiting since February!

AFAIK the situation is still as follows

It is 4-6 weeks on a car carrier from Japan to Europe.

Your car may well be buried somewhere in the massive pound at Portbury. It is not always easy to get a car out quickly so a long lead time is given. Then when the dealer gets it early you think you have got a result!

If the extras you have ordered are 'dealer fitted' then it will be done there or at the dealers main depot if it is a big dealership.

If you have ordered factory fit extras, the order will go to the factory and in turn your car will start its journey to you.

If, and this I don't know, Toyota is like Dagenham used to be (timewise not quality) then your car will roll off the line 2 days later and will wait for the rest of the car-carriers cargo, some 3000 or 4000 vehicles.

This ship makes the 4 or 5 week voyage to Portbury and again you wait till a- it's off the ship, about 10-12 hours at last count, and b-your dealers delivery schedule gets going.

If you have no extras and your choice of model has been pre-ordered by the dealer/group, you will get it in a week or 10 days

Otherwise you have to wait up to 16-18 weeks.

Obviously the earthquake/tsunami has not helped so delivery schedules are all to pot.

Delivery times / schedules did go to pot for a while with the Tsunami, however it is entirely possible you have been allocated an unsold white car which is already on the boat and only a few weeks away. The protection pack will take very little fitting. You have to remember people order cars, change their minds over colours, specs, so a car allocated to one customer might be freed up to allocate to a different customer if they cancel or change their mind
