Premature Brake Pad Wear

My sons braks failed on his Aygo and on inspection the pad friction material had de-laminated from all 4 pads. The car was serviced 1 year ago and had only done 2,000 since the service and 900 miles since the MOT. Has anyone come across this problem as if it is common there could be some dangerous car out there.

All it needs is for damp to corrode the braking mating surfaces so they don't slide freely and you get heat build up as the brakes jam partially on ...and the pads break up.

If the car was garaged, less likely but if left out in the open and hardly driven for 12 months, quite possible.

( I pass no comments on whether the pads should/should not delaminate but why they could have.)

What did the garage that did the repairs say about the general state of the disks? Rusty?

There are numerous cause for friction pad material delamination. Brakes undergo fast temperature changes which can cause the very edges to break away and once corrosion gets underneath things deteriorate rapidly although one warnig sign is brake squeal at low speeds. On the other hand maybe its just crap manufacturing. Is this another sign of poor quality by Mr T??

Looking thorugh this forum will reveal premature pad and disc replacement on numerous Toyotas.

The link below may be worth reading through.

On a slight tangent, does anyone have any recommendations for brake pads which produce less dust?

It only takes me 1-2 weeks after cleaning my car for the front wheels to be completely covered in the stuff! :crybaby:
