Gen 7 Air Box Help!

I have recently bought a Celica Gen 7 (1zzfe engine) and have removed the what i think is just a resonator for sound inside the airbox?? for a bit more airflow and a throatier sound. Just a quick double check this has no adverse affects on the Air Flow Meter. I have also blocked off the feed pipe to the resonator.

Thanks in advance

Hi Joe, Im no expert on these sort of things but if you are talking about the butterfly valve located inside the air box then as far as i can tell this has no adverse effects. I removed mine several months ago when fitting a K&N pannel filter and likewise plugged the remaining hose. I have had no problems with my car since doing so and long may it continue  . Im sure I seen a thread on here somewhere which relates to this topic which may give you more info. If not here is the link i used - http://www.celicahobby.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=57307 .

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Doing this does have a tendancy to cause the car to bog down sometimes. If you haven't done it already, reset your ECU.

Most people who remove the butterfly do fit it back as the car performs better with it all plugged back in. (Been there & got the T-Shirt)

From those dyno result though, you only really get power gains (a few hp) in 5th gear, which isn't a power gear. All power runs are done in 3rd or 4th, so all removing the butterfly does really, is just make noise.

Yeah have to agree there, just meant that it did no harm. Presume its just the same as adding an after market filter/induction kit. :D

No there is a slight difference by adding a performance filter. I did read an independant report on panel filters that were tested. Basically K&N performed best producing some small (a couple of bhp) gains.

It is however all down to the filter material. Those cotton ones are the best.

A normal induction kit though is liable to heat soak, where as the air box won't! Therefore it won't produce power gains, probably a slight loss.
