Replacement Engine Fitted

Hi,

Picked up my 06 Xt5 yesterday having had the engine fitted. It was done by Westlands Worcester excellent job they only had it for a couple of days and when I dropped it off the service manager showed me the new engine that was sat on the pallet ready to be fitted.

Question - Does the new engine have to be run in, if so how is this done?

First impressions is that it is much quieter however it doesn't pull like the old one, is this because it's new and everything needs to bed in as they say?

Your views will be much appreciated.

Regards

Carl

It's a brand new, re-worked engine supplied by the factory, it will be several thousand miles before it will loosen up. Just drive it, yes its new but engines these days dont really need to be run in like those of yesteryear, however I would say that labouring the engine is not good, so change down gear and dont labour it, when required

Its worth not thrashing the engine for a bit.... the engine will kind of bed in as you use it.

Carl. Great news on your engine rebuild. Interesting how many owners are saying that their engines are a lot quieter after rebuild. Sort of hope that my recently aquired 2007 XT-R needs this rebuild if it gives me a quieter engine.

Many thanks for the advice.

One final question, what are the differences between the replacement and the original engines, and are we likely to have the same problems in the future.

Don't believe any rumours that the engine noise is supressed by sawdust infills.

Good to hear you got your engine replaced OK. I'm waiting for my new one to be delivered. Will see how it performs against my old engine.

Ancs. Thanks for the reply it's good to know we shouldn't have these problems in the future.

It was starting to loose a bit coolant, I say loose i couldn't I see where it was leaking, Mr.T seemed to think it was the head gasket again it had been changed 2 years previous under warranty. He said book it in and we will replace the engine.

This was my first Toyota and I have to say the service they provide is second to none I'm sure you wouldn't get this from most other manufactures.

The symptons are, sooting up of the engine (have a look at your EGR, but IMO do not clean it) your exhaust will also be sooty. oil consumption, and in some cases reduced mpg, however i think most of this is at the discretion of your dealer, a good service history + relationship with your dealer seems to help, some seem reluctant to do this work whilst others are more sympathetic, a chat with your service manager/department explaining your concerns is probably a good place to start  Stew
