Sudden Death Fob Batteries?

Just had a fob Battery die on us today.

Why do these just die rather than show some sort of reduced range for a while?

At least it's fun talking the wife through the manual key.

The alarm isn't half loud down a mobile phone.

My Dealer has always changed this item when I had my [old!!] Corolla serviced, don't they do this with our HSDs'?

It is down for replacement at the 20,000 mile service, although I've had it ticked at 20,000 (but not charged (!) and n/a penned in at 40,000.

So whatever the service record says, it hasn't been replaced.

In practice, I keep a couple of spare batteries in the manual wallet, so I won't get caught out.
