New Engine Help Please?

Hello everyone this is my first Posting here and I hope you can help me.

I have a 2002 Celica 140 bhp standard car with 130K miles. The engine lost all it oil and my local garage have condemned it to an early grave. I want to re engine the car as I love it so much, I have had 3 quotes:

1 Toyota dealer new engine fitted £ 7500 ish

2 Local garage recon engine fitted £ 2600

Or

3 Euro Jap Manchester recon engine + 12 months warranty on part and labour all in at £1200!

Does anyone have any reviews of Euro Jap or any other help and advice. The car is only worth about £3000 max but I would pay up to a couple of grand to get a good engine fitted.

Thanks in advance Will

Hi Will,

First of all, I think you're being optimistic with your valuation of a pre face lift 140 with that mileage. I would say the trade value of your car would be close to £1500..so think hard before parting with a large sum to repair.

I'd strongly advise you NOT to have a reconditioned Engine fitted, these have a reputation of being rebuilt to a poor standard, and as a result not lasting very long before more expensive repairs are needed to the Engine. Ideally you need to find a VVTi from a face lift model (52 plate on) with the revised Block that cured the inherent fault in the Piston design. Hopefully some determined searching will find one around the £800 mark.

Hope that helps you make a decision.

Hi

It seems to me you've become a victim of the old death rattle that the pre-facelifts can suffer from.

You do have another option break the car for spares and buy yourself a face lifted model.

IF the reconditioned engine is from the later model then that could be a good option (IF the car really does mean that much to you and you intend to keep it)

Look at the values of 04/05 140's, then consider just how much extra it would cost to buy one of those compared to the £1200 for a recon engine.

Thank you for the response guys has given me some food for thought. I would still like to get an engine for the car as I have spent lots of money on the rest of the car last year including new breaks all round a new clutch and a few other bits and bobs, if I spend the £1200 on the recon engine and it only lasted a year or more then It would not be the end of the world but I would like to run the car for another 2 years before I replace it with something a bit more exciting. The company on eBay are called "Search Parts" and trade as EuroJap, I would be grateful to hear any reviews of this company?

Cheers Will
