Another Engine Bites The Dust .....

After a visit to a Toyota Dealers in the Midlands and complaining of oil consumption it seems that the engine in My T180 is to be rebuilt !! I'm not sure if they will rebuild or replace the entire engine ???

Its mixed feelings for Me as I didn't really want a car that had been messed with but on the other hand it takes away the thought that things could maybe go wrong later on when that all important extended warranty has passed by ........

Charlie.

I know how you feel mate after having 2 engine re-builds in my car. But at least you'll get the modified pistons ect. Its an expensive job as mine cost on the 2nd one over £6500 which was covered by Toyota's extended warranty.

Yes Spot on Mate . I spoke to the Dealer late afternoon to arrange a time to get the car booked in when I'm next down here in the Midlands and He told Me the full information .

I decided to get the job done here as Im expecting to be moving back to the Midlands over the coming Year when and of course If Our house in Scotland sells ..... Plus the People at the Dealers seem spot on !!!!

Don't be concerned Charlie, you will end up with a revitalised car!!!

I know I would do the same and let them get on with it.

I for one am kinda delighted for ye Charlie.....if it had happened outside of warranty, at the age of 7 years, and looked in the nick that good "detailers" like you would have kept it, it would have been a real bummer, non...???

NOW A DILEMMA....: Charlie has just busted one engine, on a car he has only had for a few months. He wants to test drive mine, to see if the Lindop Chip Kit "makes a difference"....answers on a postcard....

Glad you're getting it sorted.

Can your dealer source an engine then? Mine said there were problems getting one from Japan, and they don't know when they can get one in. They will let me know when they have some news.

Well if I believe what I am told there is no problem sourcing the engine ... We shall see ......

Kev I will do Me best not to break Your motor !!!

If I'm honest I'm a little disappointed that the car needs such a big job so early in its life. But I cannot fault Toyota's attitude and its customer care and once the has been done I'm sure all will be just fine ..

The Rav has been a revelation if I'm honest !! I bought it as a second car and basically a shopping trolley and a tow car to replace My outgoing Transit van.. But I just love the thing !! It has a great feel and is such a versatile car that I think it will remain on the drive for many years !!

The car is now on a private plate and two people in the last week alone have mistaken it for a brand new car !! Only down side if thats the right word is that the XF seems to not get used ...... Blimey did I just say that !!!!

Not a perfect car but can that be said about any car ?? Gents and Ladies I have had more cars than You can shake a stick at !! Honestly its ridiculous the amount of cars I've had ! But I just like this old bus its great !!

Only thing its missing is an Automatic box which would have been ace as My Wife is Disabled and sometimes finds the manual box or more to the point the pressing of the clutch a bit difficult at times.... I would buy a new one with that auto box but there is no sunroof option any more !! Plus to get a vehicle up to the spec of Our T180 with all its extras would cost well north of 30K And that's without a Sunroof...

Talking of clutches . Will the Toyota Dealer renew the clutch ? Or will they install the old one ??? Perhaps They will may give Me the option of paying for a new three piece kit and install it for free as this surely will not take any more labour ???

Perhaps Kingo would be kind enough to send Me a price for a complete three piece clutch assembly ??

Going right of the wall here could My car be converted to Auto transmission ?? A lot of work I know but it could work out cheaper than a change of car ?? I mean a great condition car with a new engine would be hard to part with ....

Thanks.

Wee Charlie.

Charlie, how much oil was your T180 using to make you take it to a dealer & did it come on suddenly or has it been using some since you bought it?

I wouldn't be concerned about an engine letting go - you are getting a new one and I have known of S2000 engines going bang on less than 10,000 miles and they are supposed to be bomb proof.

Hi Charlie,

They wont replace the clutch for you, but if you ask them to check it (Like I did when my engine was in bits) they'll tell you what state the clutch an DMF is in. Mine was fine as it had been done at 44k but they did say that if I needed one they just pop it in for free and I'd just have to pay for the parts.

I think you'll fin that the cost of the parts are very high. I bought one off Anch's as a just in case, but I'm glad that I've not had to use it yet.

There have been some genuine Toyota clutch kits go on eBay for £200! That was the the clutch set cover and disc and DMF and seals... Seller was... Seller information

There was another seller on there that was selling on with a start price of £275 and it didn't sell... This is the eBay ad for it...

This is a genuine Toyota brand new dual mass flywheel and bolts + Clutch kit cost over £900 and still in original boxes. I crashed the car before i had it fitted so is surplus to requirements. It fits a number of models but please check prior to buying. The toyota part number is flywheel 13450-0R010, clucth kit 31001-05060. The picture is not of actual item as i didn't want to open any of the boxes.

this part fits toyota avensis, rav4, auris, corolla and corolla verso. please check with toyota dealer to ensure compatibility

The seller placed it on twice (No bids at all  ) but no one wanted it... This is the sellers eBay name if you want to contact him and see if its still for sale. Member ID nat9075

This are made by LUK for Mr T...

Hope this helps

They will pop a clutch in for you, just pay for the parts, it is all stripped down so no extra labour to talk of

Converting to an auto? Not a chance, too many squiddly pounds to retro fit

Well at first I was potering about and doing low miles. The the trips up and down to the Midlands from Scotland started and when I checked the oil I saw it was using a fair bit.. Just over a litre in just under 1000 miles. My EGR is also mucky and was replaced at the last service So it looks like there is a potential problem ??

The Dealer says 1 litre in 1000 miles is to much so there must be a cut off point ?? So they decided that a new engine is to be fitted....
