Hi there.

There has been a lot said on this forum about how soft Aygo discs are.

I'm Mr. Pedantic and careful how I use mine but I replaced them at 24000 miles after very light use.

The insides of mine had "footprints" of where the inner pads had rusted the disc even though

I'm always trying to park my car with dry brakes.

If your car has not been used much and possibly parked for extended periods with

wet brakes, it is very possible they could need replacing. (I bought a neglected BMW bike which required new discs at 3000 miles).

Do NOT agree to having them skimmed. You might as well buy new.

Replacement genuine Toyota discs will be just as soft.

There are various options, but I would highly recommend buying EBC brake discs and EBC black brake pads.

(As I fitted to my car).

Discs

Pads

So, about £75.00 delivered.

I dont think anybody will charge you £145.00 for fitting them.

Much less overnight rusting.

They do not wear as fast.

Far less brake dust. (If that bothers you).

Have them fitted by a COMPETENT local garage.

If you know a mechanic who hasn't done Aygo brakes before,

here is a good "How-to" by a member.

Your choice.

I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand, as Aygo brakes do tend to wear quickly and are prone to corrosion if used too infrequently. As the car is <3 years old, you might want to 'complain' to Toyota and, if you push them ahrd enough, will give you pads/discs FOC :)

Hi, thanks for your replies. The car is only just 2 years old this month. I do only go short journeys in my car but every now and then i do go a fair way. I just was really surprised to find that he was saying i needed new ones already, he said they have corroded as the water is getting into them??.

I have already had a few problems from new anyway,

1 week old and the stereo packed up and never came back on!! Had a replacement.

4 months old and parking sensors never stopped beeping!! :ffs: 2 sets of wires later they decide to replace all the lot!! (i should think so!!)

6 months old and i find my carpet is wet through on passenger side due to no door seal!!! :censor:

So as you see i have had a fair few teething problems so this just topped it off for me!!.

He also told me i had to have it serviced there to keep my warranty valid is this true??

maybe its the size of your head weighing the car down and hence putting extra unnecessary strain on your brakes!?!?

you do not have to have your car serviced at a toyota dealers to keep the remainder of your warranty.

as long as the another garage uses toyota parts in the servicing.the garage is vat registerd.

and they service the car to toyota schedule for you car, your warranty will not be effcted.

Aaaarrrghh!!! Why are they just lying to me?? I thought the days of "ooh she's a woman we will rip her off" were long gone!! :o Who can you trust?? I specifically asked him if i had to go there and he was adamant i had too!!

Reversing sensors on an Aygo? I wouldn't admit to that on an open Forum ;)

As for the brakes, I think they are fair in their assessement that, if you do far too many short runs, then the discs are liable to corrode. However, given the age of your car, I would most certainly be asking Toyota for a 'goodwill' contribution - get your Dealership on it!

No, the parts have to be of equivalent quality. It's always wise to have added to the invoice that the service has been carried out to Toyota's schedule and parts of a similar quality used. :)

Block Exemption.

Hey i don't mind admitting my parking sensors!! I just stick it in reverse and do my make-up in the mirror and stop when it starts beeping!! :D :D

Wait, why do they need to be replaced if they're corroded?

Can't you just clear the corrosion by, y'know, braking?!

Or has the disc corroded all the way to the vent??

That`s a good proposition! Clearing the corrosion by braking! and it did work for me!!!!

Having done only 7.5k miles in 2 years I received the same reply from my Toyota garage as you did. Due to the little torque of the Aygo it oftentimes isn`t needed to brake, instead you slow down by stepping off the gaspedal. That`s what I did during these 2 years with the aforementioned consequence: corrosion builtup on the inside of the brakes.

I found a nice downhill slope in the neighbourhood(with little traffic) where I can brake for a longer time and thus get rid of the brown stuff.

Have a look at your brakes and see if it`s not too late to do this cleaning trick :)

yes it would be advisable to to have the independent garage that does your service to add those detaoils as it could save problems should you make a warrany claim.

and your correct about 'equivalent quality' i had forgotten that.

Under EU legislation it is not compulsory to have your car serviced at a dealer garage. Tell the dealer this has been law since 2003 - 8 years ago. Additionally this legislation has been updated since June 2010 - see link below.

http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/servicing-and-repair-costs-to-be-slashed/250089

The problem with using non Toyoyta parts during servicing is that should a claim be necessary under warranty Mr. T can always argue the toss when it comes to quality. Although I think considering the crap quality of Toyota orignal beake discs he would be hard pushed.

This poor wear performance regarding brakes affects practically all Toyotas cars across the range.

Come on Mr. T improve your quality of your braking materials and your service to your customers.

Mr. T needs to be learn a simple lesson and it's this. A customer is someone who keeps coming back because the quality or service is worth having. Obviously when it comes to brakes this isn't happening.
