How Do I Check Whats In The Oil Can ?

We (the charity) recently bought 2 large oil/fuel tanks at auction... mainly to use for our red diesel for the recycling machinery we have.

Both tanks are labelled Engine Oil, and we reckon between the 2 tanks we have about 2000 litres of some sort of oil. It may be engine oil, altho it seems a little thin.

We have a fleet of 7 diesel trucks; and several diesel run plant. However we don't want to chuck the oil out as its obviously new. However we also don't want to use it in a truck in case its not actually engine oil... eg maybe hydraulic oil.

I've phoned a few labs and none can help me. Anybody know how we can find out what this stuff is ???

thanks for any help.

Have a word with the guys at millers oil. They maybe able to help you with this. They have in the past done free oil tests for me to check how my engine is doing. Maybe they'll tell you what oil you have and the specs/grade from a sample...

Hi there Bothy.... how about making contact with the club's oil guru.... Oilman?

I am sure Opie Oils will have some form of knowledge or at least they should know a man who does!

Good luck
