Engine Trouble - Help

Hi,

Car engine sounding rough - was very low on oil - new oil put in - taken to Toyota dealer who says engine fault but non-specific. Says engine could seize up at any moment. Loss of performance after 2500/3000 revs. Idles fine - seems to have lost 1 litre of oil in last couple of weeks - approx 250 miles. The total mileage is 64000.

Had a Mk1 and a Mk2 in the family and never any problems - any ideas? Toyota says probably a new engine....

Any known problems with these engines?

thanks for any help

Does anyone know of any independent toyota garages/specialists that you have used in the London/Middlesex/Greater London/Berkshire area?

Sounds pretty dire and I would simply buy a new engine rather than trust someone else to rebuild it. Personally I rebuild my engines but if you don't have the time or skills etc necessary then just buy another engine off eBay or something similar.

OR you can pester Toyota but you will get the same answer I give my mates when they ask to drive my GTi...
