Hi

First time on the forum, Does anyone have experiance of how much to repair this type of fault?

When the car is in 5th gear, when i come off or on the gas the gear stick moves and slips into neutral.

Ive have been told this is a common fault by my local non toyota garage and approx repair cost is £650+vat.

Is this around the money i should pay ? the car is a diesal 2 litre 2004 plate.

Cheers , appreciate any feed back

Not sure. But I think you need a straight 75w grade for your gearbox if its like mine. I went for Silkolen Pro SRG ester racing gearbox oil for my T-180. Goes like a bomb. Got it from Opie Oils. But the Fuchs oil is th sam stuff in there bottle for about £3 a ltr cheaper. Take a look on the Opie Oils sit and do a search for both those makes and you'll see they are the sam specs and oils.

Thanks for the response, id be surprised if a gear box oil change solved this, what makes you say the oil is the problem? problem is so bad that when in 5th on the motorway simply coming off the power moves the stick backwards and into neutral.

It may not solve it mate. But Its the 1st thing I'd do. And its better to spend £30 on oil than £700 plus on a gearbox. I had a problm with my T-180 box with it crunching into 1st and 2nd gear. I was told that I may need a new box. So I thought I'd change the box oil and its never had a problem since. The problem with these boxes is that they have a triple synco on the gears. So changing the oil to the correct spec may save you a lot of time and money. If you're anywhere near Cardiff I'll show you how to do it if you're unsure.
