Avensis D4D Problem

Avensis 2.0d4d year of manufacture - 2000th. I crossed app. 20.000, total mileage is 240.000. Here is the story, the problem appeared about 2 months ago, I thought it was already solved but for the second time it reappeared. In fact, the car after driving several hours just stopped pulling. The idle is normal, raises rpm, but during the ride it is not receiving throttle, as if there is not enough fuel. For a moment, as if it gains strength and than loses ... It cannot go over 2500 rpm.

When taken into service there on the computer it showed 10 lower fuel pressure in the system. We opened the reservoir, under the rear seat, and cleaned the filter, (that looks like a sieve), which is placed the one pipe that draws the fuel from the tank. As the serviceman said, there were deposited impurities. After that the car pulled nicely, app. 300km, and the same again. I returned the car to the service, looked again, suggested that perhaps the problem is with the high pressure pump or the nozzles.

Then, I drove to another service, told the story, they suggested complete washing of the tank, what I have accepted. He wasted 25l of diesel, washed it with 5l of gasoline, cleaned that sieve, poured new fuel and told me to go. The tank was not dirty, only a few crumbs. On that sieve there was a small part that was plunged and exactly where the tube sits on opening that draws fuel from the tank. I poured new fuel, the car was again going again very well, good traction ... made app 400km and again the same case, begins to twitch ...

Note that the problem usually occurs after a longer destination, say, 100km, if that really means something. Is there any idea what could it be, or is there anyone who encountered similar problem?

Hello,

have you changed the fuel filter in the engine bay, if not do that and maybe add some injector cleaner to the fuel tank , also this is the the least costly option to start with.

Pete.

All this is done and has no effect.

Try using the car with the fuel filler cap slackened off for a while ( don't have the tank full though) in case the tank breather is blocked as this would cause a vacuum in the tank and so the fuel pump would struggle to supply fuel to the engine or if you don't want to try this remover the filler cap briefly (you may hear air rushing into the tank) when the problem arises and see if the car the runs normal again.

This is also a free test ....

Good luck, Pete.
