Hi Hari!

Tavy has a diagram for the both rear lamps. He posted info about them, I just cannot seem to find it. Maybe he'll be able to post it on here again...

You can find the correct fuse from your guidebook. It should be under the dash or under the hood as there are two fuse boxes.

Fuses can be bought from Toyota for sure. I've found some other shops selling them aswell, but it seems that such type of fuse isn't very common, so don't get dissapointed if you won't find them in the first shop you'll walk into. Also, be careful not to buy incorrect mini-fuse. There are similiar ones on the market, so take one fuse with you to check that you're buying the correct one :)

Why are you asking these questions? Your reverse lights aren't working or what? What is the situation with your tail light project at the moment anyway?

Hi Speed chaser....

Sigh. Big story. I got knocked back of my tail light and it was too expensive to do it with Jemca (London). Took it to someone a colleague recommended, and due to excessive force, he ripped the connector away from the loom wiring (cant believe a company like toyota on a 2009 model puts a very cheap kind of connector and then not do any spares!!). It worked temporarily from his fixes, but when putting indicator, the reverse light and indicator flashes. :crybaby:

Anyway, took it back to Jemca and apparently the connector alone that holds the loom is not available, thus needing to replace the whole wiring loom, and their quote was like £1K!! So far i have no luck finding that connector on its own, even through breakeryard.

My father in law who has good knowledge in cars is helping me out to fix it. But since neither of us knew the wiring, he did some electrical bulb tests to identify the break, signal and normal light and he found the ground but there is one more we are not sure off. In that process, he has blown few fuses but he did some trick to bypass the blown fuse. ;) ;)

we going to fix the connector by soldering the wires into connectors (Seems like the only way now)...

Do you know what fuse (which location) does the reverse light uses? My reverse lights are not working during our fixes, I believe we blown another fuse...but neither has label to say it clearly what it is.

How do I get hold of Tavy?

Regards

Hari

Hi Hari, I'm sorry to hear what happened with your car, I hope you'll solve the problem asap.

Regardless the engine type, all Auris have same tail wiring, they depends of body type, LHD or RHD.

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=102692 , but this is for RHD Auris. I suppose you've got LHD Auris. In this case, pines signification is like this:

left side connector:

5 - ground

4 - parking lights

3 - brake

8 - indicator lamp

6 - reverse lamp

right side connector:

5 - ground

6 - parking lights

7 - brake

1 - indicator lamp

3 - fog lamp

I hope this will help you.

You can buy the bulb holders, did he break the connector that goes onto the bulb holder? If so an auto electrician should be able to fix it easily enough

thanks tavy and part king. Part_king, no, just the tail light..bulbs and holders are fine. but the person who was trying to fix ripped the cable out...so need to solder it back.

tavy thanks for the wiring diagram!! a relief. we had one wire but didnt know what it would do...maybe thats why my reverse light isnt working....though the other side isnt working either, so could be blown up fuse. do you know what locatio/description the reverse fuse uses?

The fuse box where you must check is under the glove box (passanger side) I suppose, because mine has this fuse box under the steering wheel column, but mine is RHD. Take out the cover, and you'll see the fuses numbered backside of cover, so tail lights fuse is no.1 , rear fog light is no.10 , reverse light and turn signal/hazard lights is no.19 , and stop lights is no.21.

Hi all, see the Post on the same subject on July the 14th I to think the connections at the Multi Plug are cheap and nasty and would have expected more from Toyota. but I suppose this is modern technology Big Auris

hi all

Work was a success. Simple multimeter, soldering iron had done a job what as quoted to me as £1K. No doubt they would have done professionally but probably would have done what I did and charged me same anyway!

Tavy, this is actually my first car and so am still learning....thus hope you dont find it funny when I ask this

When solving this issue wiht my father in law (who helped me heaps!), I noted on my right hand side tail light, the reverse light is in red lense where else the left hand side is white lense. Has this always been the case for auris new models? I looked at your wiring and you did mention "fog light" for right and "reverse light" for left....

If that is not the case, then the only thing I would have said changed is left hand tail light broke and replacement was sent by Toyota...and they would have sent one with white lense. (Though why a reverse light would be red lense??)

Also, we thought the fuse broke and hence reverse light werent working. But turns out to be, on the left hand side, we didnt wire it - thus it wasnt coming on. And the right hand side, for some reason toyota used all 6 cables though there is only 5 needed. So my father in law removed cable number 2 (light blue) and moved cable number 3 (red - which is the reverse light with red lense) to slot number 2. And it worked...

Does any of this makes sense to you guys?

Hari

I'm glad to hear that; bravo, good job!

1K? They are insane!

Of course I don't , the most important thing is that you like and want to solve this type of problems by yourself...

When solving this issue wiht my father in law (who helped me heaps!), I noted on my right hand side tail light, the reverse light is in red lense where else the left hand side is white lense. I thought if your car has steering wheel at the right side (like all the cars in the UK) fog light must be in the right side and reverse lamp in left, unlike mine (which has steering wheel at the left side of car) that has fog lamp in the left and reverse lamp at the right.

If that is not the case, then the only thing I would have said changed is left hand tail light broke and replacement was sent by Toyota...and they would have sent one with white lense. (Though why a reverse light would be red lense??)

It's possible they sent a wrong tail light because reverse lamp should be white...

And the right hand side, for some reason toyota used all 6 cables though there is only 5 needed.

In some countries where the fog lamp is not compulsory, that lamp must be in white, for reverse, so both of the lamps are for reverse.

lol, thanks. yes i too confirmed from google images my car lights are correct. i assumed both must be white. but not the case. dont understand why 6 wires are required though. i really used 5 unless i have pulled something out that i shouldnt, but when i tested all lights (ah, havent tested fog), everything was perfectly lighting.

yes, the 1K is insane as the part (connector alone) doesnt exist, thus they need to order the whole loom - thats about 400 quid, and another 400+ for labour and remaining is VAT.

thanks again and hope we have more things to discuss!!

regards

hari

Hi Hari!

Glad that the situation is solved now.

Regarding the extra cable. If I understand you right, it's not extra. I, too, have six cables. It's because one is for fog, and other is for reverse. You can choose which to connect and which to leave disconnected depending on which light you use. If you want to have reverse lights on both sides, you can connect reverse cable. If you want to have reverse only on one side and fog on another, connect another cable. To have reverse lights on both sides, you'll need different tail light with white lense.

  • 4 years later...

I have just had the same problem, when I was replacing the rear lamp on my 2010 registered Auris I was too robust in removing the old unit and ripped all the wires out, breaking some of the attachments, This left me with 6 coloured wires and not knowing which fitted where. With trial and error, I along with my neighbour, sorted where rach wire went. Because of the broken attachments I had to solder all the wires in place. For anyone else who has this problem I have listed below the details:

1 Light blue  -  right signal

2 Not used

3 Light blue  -  Fog light

4 Not used

5 White/black  -  Ground

6 Green  -  Lights

7 Dark blue  -  Brake light

8 Not used

9 Not used

The red wire was spare.
