Help I have a 1998 surf the 4x4 lights on the dash won't go out have tried to move the 4x4 stick in and out of 2wheel and 4wheel mode but the lights won't go out please help

Reverse a short distance after taking out of 4wd

All of it the lights are flashin no matter what its in

Been workin on the surf all day with a mate who has a gen 2 his makes a click when you push the 4wheel drive button mine however does not is there anyone out there who can help as I can still put it in 4wheel high and low but the lights on the dash still flash all the time
