Gearbox Oil Change

Hello Folks,

I want to change the gearbox oil on my manual '04 D4D Avensis. Where is the gearbox drain plug and what does it look like?

But before I drain it, I'd also need to know where the filler plug is and what it looks like! Are the plugs reasonably accesible for a guy working on the car on wheel ramps outside the house as opposed to the comfort of a fully equipped workshop?

Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

The gearbox oil filler plug is on the front of the box as you look at it and on the passenger side. The drain plug is tucked away close to the bell housing by the rear of the box. Go for Silkolen Pro 75w full ester oil from Opie Oils. Takes about 3 ltr of oil.

Thanks Mistermena.

Correct you need 3 liter of oil, but it actually takes only 2.6 liters. Done on mine. paid £20 to get it changed in local garage.

Best to check your manual, if no change is recommended and says fill for life 80k miles or 10 years can be a good time for replacement. 👍

Sorry to bring this old thread back to life. I have been trying to locate fill and drain plugs on my Verso 2.0 D4D 2010 6 speed manual. I can see one plug probably 24mm facing forward which I suspect is fill but I cannot locate the other one. Anyone has any pictures or diagram of where it might be? Google search doesn't seem to bring anything.

Appreciate your help.
