Hi All, I thought this post may be of use to you. I decided an Aygo rear wiper delay would be a good idea, so here goes. First I went to Maplins and got a Vellman interval timer mk iii VT27 £5.99 self assembly kit, built it, then tested it on the bench and set it for a pulse on for one second with a delay of 25 seconds. All ok so far.

You will see by the photos the 3 wires are as follows:

Black = negative. This is also looped to give the relay its negative input for the timed pulse. This goes to the switch side of the red/silver wire.

Red = positive timer supply.

Blue = timed out. This will go to the wiper side of the red/silver wire.

Now to the wiper wiring. The Aygo differs to most in that the wiper is switched by a negative supply.

The 3 wires on mine are as follows:

Blue with silver dash = permanent + positive when ignition ON. I piggybacked on to this wire with the timers red wire.

The red/silver wire is switched – negative. This is cut and one side is the negative in for the timer unit and the other side is the delay out for the motor.

The white/silver wire = permanent – negative. This wire is not touched.

I used male and female connectors when I cut the red/ silver wire so if the timer ever fails it can be bypassed quickly. To keep the timer unit as small as possible I insulated any bare contacts, then wrapped it in foam and a plastic bag, tucked it behind the wiper motor then taped it in place. It all fits behind the motor cover. Job Done. It works a treat, switching the wiper switch off then on, gives an instant wipe and the relay cannot be heard over the road noise.

I know my system is a bit more expensive, but it has a lot more functionality too...

You get to keep the continuous operation, have a PROGRAMMABLE interval,

selectable number of wipes and a (selectable) "dry-wipe" after spraying!

Everything connects up at the switch in the steering column.

ATM I have 3 units available and those will be the last ones for now.

Can probably deliver them to the UK for £45 or £50 incl. P&P...

Dear Aygo Owner.

I have purchased and built the Veleman Mk 111 kit and have a few questions. Can you tell me how to test the unit?

Also could you send me or put on this site a very simple schematic of the wiring system i.e. what wire go's where on the timer and the car wiper motor.

Cannot see where the long black cable terminates and I am not an electrician so it needs to be very simple please.

Best regards

Clive

I have at last managed to get this unit to function, the Veleman unit can be purchased ready assembled from Veleman directly.

Setting the delay was a bit fiddly as the rheostats are very sensitive but I now have control over the rear wiper, Many thanks for all concerned.
