Help Engine Rusting!

I bought an Avenis Strata 2lt Diesel D4D, 18 months ago recently I looked at the engine and noticed the aluminium casing on the ABS Pump is rusting. I took it immediatly to my Toyato dealer and was told that they wouldn't replace it and what they would do is clean the rust off and repaint it. Any suggestions on what I should do? Anyone else have this problem?

Hi seb85,

Welcome to the forum. Just wondering, where did you buy this vehicle from? Are you sure this hasn't been involved in some sort of water/flood damage? Check everywhere else to make sure and do a HPI check.

The reason i'm asking is because my car is also a flood-damage repaired vehicle, although the damage was over 5 years ago and since that time, the person has been driving it fine with very little signs of rust.

Look for signs of rust under the body, under carpets etc.

Well 13 views and only one reply...

Bit hard to tell tbh (bit blurry) but as far as it's possible to make out it doesn't look anything to be overly concerned over. Sometimes components can develop surface rust... it isn't necessarily a problem.

How can a part that is aluminium be rusty.aluminium does not rust, but it can corrode usuely a white powdery effect.this can be removed by a wire brush or something like that.but i dont suppose in this case its easy to get at.

Hiya, I bought it new from a recognised Toyota dealership. I don't know if they'd be allowed sell on a new car that is a flood-damage repaired vehicle without informing the new owner. They told me they'd have to fix the rust and repaint every 12months which is what's annoying me most as I've only a three year warranty. They said the cause was oxidisation.

if you've got a 3yr warranty, then i wouldn't worry about it and let them sort it out. Relax

It's not unusual to see light surface corrosion on fuel pumps or ABS actuators. Any protection they had during manufacture is usally eroded by diesel or brake fluid when both the engine and brake system is being bled. I have yet to see such corrosion end up causing any lastng damage but what I do is give it a few liberal coats of WD40 or the like - that usually stops it in its tracks.:)

your kidding me on......thats not a abs pump......for one its on the wrong side of the engine that part is a cast distribution block for the high pressure fuel pump...... and it happens to them all hammer rite smooth will cover it and stop it....if your that bothered....for god sake dont look under the car at the sub frame etc you'll p00p yourself at the rust under their.....
