Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone has had a problem starting their Auris or if there are any known electrical problems before i bring it to a garage.

I went to start my auris this morning and there was nothing, no electrical power whatso ever. It doesnt even flash the indicators when i press the key fob.

This afternoon i have put jump leads on to see if it was the Battery but again nothing, not even a murmur. It is almost like i have not pressed the clutch in when trying to start.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Could anyone give pointers of what i could look out for? I have established that it isnt the key fob Battery as ive tried my spare with similar results.

Many thanks in advance.

Sounds like a very flat Battery in which case jump leads would not work.

Which could be lucky for you as I would never use jump leads on a modern car.

If you use jump leads and the donor cars engine is running which it really would need to be to provide sufficient power then you run a real risk of blowing your ECU as your engine fires and your alternator starts charging.

Use a jump pack or trickle charge the Battery before trying anything else.

Good luck.

Thanks for getting back Don.

I had no clue about the jump leads, so really appreciate that - will hold me in good stead for the future :)

Will take the Battery to my local store tomorrow to test it. I wouldnt know where to start with a jump pack and bit wary of causing any damage.

Again thanks, i'll update this post with my results.

Battery was ok :(

With the Battery being ok, i'm kind of ruling out the alternator also. I dont think it would be the starter as its not even getting to that point.

I'm not sure what else i could test.

Does naybody have any ideas? Would a fuse blowing do this do you think?

Do you think it would be better/cheaper to ring an auto electrician?

Many thanks again

Are you sure the clutch pedal is fully depressed when starting the engine, will not start otherwise, also wise to have it in neutral.

I've had this problem 2 months ago... I switched the key on ignition, all the lights of the clock light up (those that should be light up when the ignition is on), and when I try to start the engine all lights are dead, and nothing; conclusion: Battery failure, though it had 3 years only, it broke down. Then I started the car with jump leads, it was no problem, and I haven't stop it until I reach a spare parts shop to buy a new Battery.

I had this problem last month also, my car spent 2 weeks in mrT,

•I had a new Battery

•ECU update

•new injectors (not cheap at £1400 a set)

Mines ok now apart from they stained my alloy grey cleaning it and it won't come off, so they have got it for the next few days

Thanks for all your replies.

Just an update and to close the thread.

I got it working!

By fluke, science or chamce i dont know - but i tried almost everything and was at the point of ringing an auto electrician. A neighbour suggested cleaning the earth! Bare with me. I took the Battery out and undid the earth connector, filed it down a little (It was really clean and ididnt see the point, but i went through with it anyway), put the Battery back in and voila! it worked. Everything went back to normal.

Again thanks for your help and i hope this might come in useful to someone maybe doing a search to fault find.
