95 Rav4 Misfire/ Hesitation

My 95 Rav4 petrol with manual transmission has developed what can only be described as a misfire/ hesitation at 3000rpm, hot or cold, however sometimes after i have given it a good thrashing it goes away for a while.

I have changed the plugs for new NGK ones, leads for 2nd hand (apparent good ones)and the coolant temp sensor (advised by toyota mechanic)

I have only really noticed it after i had the whole exhaust changed (minus cat)

I also checked the fault codes and it said it was running lean (can't remember the exact code :( )

Any ideas? i was thinking maybe a new 02 sensor?

Thanks neil.

Hi.

I was actually thinking it could be the petrol filter, as i have to do the one on the supra next week i might as well do the Rav at the same time.

Just that one of the probs found on my number 2 RAV was thick muck in the filter recently....given the age of the tank etc I don't suppose its surprising. Its running a different engine, but had a misfire around 3500rpm.

Sorry to bump this, i have been driving the rav alot more now and the misfire/ hesitation happens at around 1800-2500rpm and only when cold, once its warm it literally jumps forward and everything is fine.

Any ideas (still not changed fuel filter yet)

Would check gaps on the spark plugs, one may have been accidentally knocked and closed/widened gap on one of the plugs.
