THe marks could be soemthing as simple as someting being spilled or worse a sudden coolant escape - possibly from a duff head gasket or blown coolant pipe.

Has the seller offered any reason as to why th ecar has no service record for the last four years?:)

Its been traded in.

Car has had 1 service in 2007 @ 50,000 miles it was a lease car. It is a 2006 car.

Since then I cant find any other records of it. Cars HPI clean.

You may want to look in this forum for loss of coolant on Avensis D4D, I did and possibly saved myself a fortune. I was losing coolant which was showing on engine cover as pink dots and couldn't see where it was coming from. The guys on this forum were discussing a fault with the D4D (particularly the 2.2) which Toyota was putting right on an extended warranty programme. I took mine to local dealer Hodgson Silverlink near Wallsend who were fantastic. They stripped the engine confirmed the fault and submitted a report to Toyota UK who paid for everything, which include fitting a new short engine. Not sure how you will stand with the missing service history, but you may want to think twice before buying it if not too late as people on this forum were quoting costs of around £6000........... ouch!!!!!!!
