Toyota Auris 08 - Check Strap

Hi guys,

I'm new around here so not sure if this has been discussed before. I have a 2008 3 door Auris. The driver door makes a lot of noise when opening and closing. I brought it into the garage where i bought it and they said it was the check strap. The check strap had snapped and was letting the door open out to far. The car was under warranty but they said it was up to Toyota to approve this and that more than likely they would not cover it. Rang Toyota Ireland and they said it was up to the individual garage to decide when back to the garage and still wouldn't do it. The car has since gone out of warranty, so just wondering has anyone got this done under warranty before? Or got it done themselves?

Can you see that the strap has actually snapped? it's very unlikely that it has, is the strap still connected to the door and A pillar? when the nuts that fasten it to the door or the bolts that fasten it to the A pillar work loose it makes a heck of a noise when you open or close the door because the springs in the strap are very tight and strong, if the strap has snapped you will have a lot of damage to the door and front wing, this is because the door has blown open in strong winds and will not be covered under warranty, this is a bigger problem with 3 door cars because the doors are much bigger, i have seen this many times, if there's no damage try a 10 mm socket and tighten both nuts and bolts, if it has snapped it's quite easy to replace, stay calm.

Chris.
