Brake Pad Fitting

How easy is it for an experienced DIY mechanic to replace the pads, front & rear in an Avensis (GS VVTi 1.8 Auto, 2001)? Is there anything to watch out for - or should I leave it to the professionals? Have replaced pads in various Fords & others over the years, but Haynes don't seem to do any manuals for the Avensis

I can't speak specifically for your Avensis, but I have fitted new pads front and rear to my 1993 Corolla and my mum's '96 LS400... I'm far from an experienced DIYer, and it was a breeze for me. Hardest part is getting the pistons to recede enough to fit new pads over the brake disks.

too get the pistons to go back open the brake fluid cap and place a cloth over it to stop any spills, then when you push back on the pistons excess fluid comes out the tank making it easier to fit the pads, dont forget to top up the brake fluid after though, also some pads have to be fitted a certain way round, should be indicated by an arrow on pad showing rotation of wheel, hope this helps, should take about half hour to an hour

If u cant get the piston to go in enough, just use a G clamp, and a bit of wood so u dont damage the surface of it.
