Rav4 T180 Noisy Gearbox & Keyless Issues

My 56 plate Rav has a couple of niggles. When stationary on neutral and clutch not pressed, there is a rattle from the gearbox. Makes the car sound like a tractor. I had the same problem on a Civic. Input shaft bearing or thrust release bearing are the most likely faults?

And the keyless start. Sometimes with the clutch pressed to the floor the dash display says press the clutch, and the car won't start. Takes a lot of attempts sometimes.

The car has extended warranty until October, bit I am guessing they will avoid the gearbox hassle.

Also the alloys are bubbling, would these be covered?

Thanks people.

Welcome to TOC, you would have been better posting this in the Rav4 forum or asking a moderator to move it for you.

The gearbox noise is a common one on the 4.3 and is quite normal and been much discussed in the past. Try using

the search function and you will find previous threads on the Rav4 forum regarding this issue. Not sure if extended

warranty will cover your wheels, and the starting issue is better being answered by one of the technical gurus like

Anchorman. Anyways good luck with it thumbsup.gif

I know it's a bit late now and you probably have the answer but I have the same issue and apparently it is 'normal' to have this noise especially in 2nd and 3rd gear. There is a Toyota technical service bulletin dated 13/08/08. The solution is to fit a new bracket assembly control cable, and taking out the front seats, rolling back the carpet and fitting Asphalt sheets to both footwells and transmission tunnel. I've been quoted £200 for parts and 6 hours labour (Not main stealer). It doesn't completely cure the problem but does dull down the bearing rumble on deceleration in 2nd and 3rd and rattle noise during idle with released clutch pedal.

Not a happy bunny seeing as I've just spent £1400 on new clutch and dmf.

Really beginning to feel I've bought a money pit :(

Just seen the date of the post... Nothing like resurrecting the dead :)
